As a result of the recent appointment of Costa Rican president Rodrigo Chaves, new sanitary measures have come into place, and this time, many restrictions have been removed with the hopes of attracting more international visitors and returning to what was known before the COVID 19 pandemic arrived.
The updated decree was emitted last 8th of may and, as opposed to the previous decreet published back in March 2022, the use of masks is no longer mandatory for everyone except first line health workers or also people entering a hospital of any kind. This news has been received with some doubt for some; more specifically, Costa Rica's General Secretary of the National Union of Nursery (SINAE AFINES) stated that this could be the worst time to be careless about sanitary measures. Nonetheless, President Chaves has reassured that these measures have been put in place to ultimately give the Costa Rican population the liberty and responsibility of their own health.Costa Rica's Ministry of Health has also stated that it will keep a close eye on the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country as well as the occupation of beds in its public health institutions. As of now, there hasn't been a better time to come visit Costa Rica and visit its wonders without having to care about using masks everywhere or even filling health pass forms to enter the country.
