Los sueños marina

Amenities

Our 200-slip marina can accommodate vessels from 20’ to 200’, with all the amenities boaters have come to expect from a sophisticated facility. The unique teak-topped dock system features imported pedestals with 30, 50 and 100-amp electrical service, potable water, cable TV, internet, and telephone.

Additional services include 24-hour security, video surveillance, trash removal, dry storage for vessels up to 35’ in length, mini self-storage units, marine supply store, bar and restaurants and state-of-the-art fuel station.

  • Fuel Service
The Los Sueños fuel station is equipped with state-of-the-art technology in fuel dispersion, featuring a 65-gallon per minute pumping system for efficiency and speed. All fuel passes through a centrifuge cleaning process to ensure the highest percentage of purity possible, making it the cleanest fuel available in Costa Rica.

The fuel station also handles oil changes, extractions and bulk servicing of all lubricants, as well as complimentary pump-out services for sanitary tanks.
  • Dry Storage
The Los Sueños dry storage facility can accommodate vessels of up to 35 feet in length, perfect for storing jet skis and small recreational boats.

The Marina’s lift truck has a 10-ton capacity. Its range extends from –15 feet for direct retrieval from the water to +30 feet for secure placement of boats in the two-storey dry storage structure that houses 80 vessels in total.
  • Emergency Response
The Los Sueños fireboat, El Extinguidor, can respond to an emergency anywhere in the Marina within 3.5 minutes. The vessel’s pump engine is capable of dispersing 750 gallons of water per minute at 150 pounds per square inch, and also functions as an emergency dewatering pump for boats in distress.

When required, the new Los Sueños Emergency Care Center can dispatch a state-of-the art ambulance with trained paramedics to attend to medical emergencies on the docks and on board vessels.
  • Environmental Consciousness
As the only authorized marina in Costa Rica, Los Sueños is subject to stringent environmental monitoring by government agencies.

Los Sueños Marina regulations expressly prohibit the flushing of holding tanks within the facility; fish cleaning or fishing from the docks; and the transport and use of hydrocarbons and other chemical substances within the facility. Any vessels in violation of these rules are immediately expelled from the facility without exception.

We would like to make you aware of some important legal information related to boating and fishing in Costa Rica to make your stay with us as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Following you will find important information concerning your entrance into Costa Rican waters and Los Sueños Marina. Please read it thoroughly and contact the Marina Office (tel. 011-506-637-8941 or E-mail marina@lossuenosresort.com) if you have questions.  We would be happy to help you.

Entering Costa Rican Waters

Upon your initial entry into the country, you will receive a Temporary Permit for your boat, called the Certificado de Importación Temporal from the Ministry of Finance and Customs (in Spanish, Ministerio de Hacienda y Aduana). This permit is valid for three months and can be renewed for an additional three-month period. However, it must be renewed before it expires.  Once the permit has expired, you will need to leave the country, as Customs will not make any exceptions for renewal.  Moreover, the permit can only be renewed by the person under whose name it was originally registered.  You cannot designate an agent or a legal representative for the purposes of renewal on your behalf.

If you are planning to keep your boat in Costa Rica for more than six months, the only current means available is through a one or two-year slip rental contract with Los Sueños Marina. Further details can be provided upon your arrival if you are interested. This process can be carried out by an agent, a lawyer or the boat owner.  It should not take more than two weeks to obtain the permit. The most difficult part is scheduling the boat inspection that the Ministry of Transportation (M.O.P.T.) must complete to confirm that the boat is in Los Sueños Marina.  This inspection must be requested from and coordinated with the Maritime Department of the M.O.P.T. in San José.

Fees for processing a one or two-year permit range from $100.00 to $1,000.00, depending on the person whom you designate to process your paperwork (i.e. a lawyer, an agent or your captain).

The M.O.P.T. requires the following documentation:

  • Customs temporary permit (original).
  • Certificate of Documentation/Registration of the boat.
  • Copy of the Non-Commercial Slip Rental Agreement in Spanish.
  • Affidavit made before a Costa Rican Notary Public, in which the owner of the boat states
that the boat does not have a lien or claim against it in the country in which it is registered.
  • Power of attorney authorizing the person that you designate to take care of this paperwork on
    your behalf.
    • If the owner of the boat is a company, the M.O.P.T. requires a notarized certificate that proves that the representative of the boat is a legal representative of the company and has sufficient authority to act on behalf of the company.
    • A Certificate of Incorporation of the company will also be requested by the M.O.P.T.

Local law prohibits non-Costa Rican flagged boats from operating as commercial charters.  Please be aware
that government authorities are very strict in this regard, and officials make regular inspections
    of Los Sueños Marina.

Foreign vessels found chartering could be impounded.

Our recommended agent is Ernesto Andrade. His phone number is (506) 661-0948 (office) or (506) 811-7290 (cellular).

    FISHING IN COSTA RICA

All boats are required by law to obtain a Costa Rican fishing license for sport fishing.  A non-Costa Rican flagged vessel is prohibited from fishing for commercial purposes.

The documentation required by INCOPESCA (the Fishing Commission) is as follows:

  • Customs temporary permit (original and copy).
  • Certificate of Documentation/Registration of the boat (original and copy).
  • If the owner of the boat is a corporation, a notarized document stating that the legal representative of the boat is the person whose name appears on the temporary permit.
  • Passport (original and copy).
  • The originals are only presented to INCOPESCA so that they may verify their authenticity and are returned to the boater at the time of presentation.

A fishing license is only issued to a boat for the term of the temporary permit; in other words, three months.  If a temporary permit is renewed, the boat's fishing license can also be renewed.  Once you obtain a two-year permit, you may apply for a one-year fishing license for your boat.

Fishing licenses are priced in accordance with the length of the boat ( prices current as of March 2005 ):

    A.  Up to 8 meters:     Approx. $37.00 per term

    B.  8-12 meters:         Approx. $63.00 per term

    C. Over 12 meters:     Approx. $85.00 per term

Any person on your boat who intends to fish must purchase an individual fishing license.  Your captain and crew must each have an individual license as well.  This type of license costs approximately $24.  The person requesting such a license must present their passport at the time of purchase.  Individual licenses can be purchased at the marina office.
